Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic only expected to return in January

Posted: 27 August 2017 Time: 08:45

Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho says he only expects star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to be fully fit by January.

The Swedish forward this week signed a new one-year deal at Old Trafford, just two months after effectively leaving the club following the expiry of his previous deal.

Ibrahimovic is still recovering from a knee injury picked up in Europa League action in April, yet has made impressive progress as he look to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.

Yet his boss does not believe the 35-year-old will be available for action this year.

"He will be back in January," Mourinho told BT Sport.

"When the market is open and people are spending money, we don't. But we get a player who was fundamental for us last season. He comes to give us extra quality in the second half of the season.”

United have looked in good form regardless, topping the Premier League table with three straight wins in the first three rounds of the 2017/18 campaign.
