Real Madrid’s Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo added to his list of glowing accolades when he scooped the Uefa player of the year award at an event held on Thursday evening.

Ronaldo, who won his fourth Champions League title, finished the competition as the top scorer with 12 goals, including two in the final against Italian giants Juventus. Madrid won the final in Cardiff 4-1 to claim a second consecutive title with coach Zinedine Zidane. Ronaldo was also named forward of the year at the event.

“Every year [it’s the] same challenge, to win everything possible. I am so glad to be here and win this trophy again. I want to say thank you to my teammates and congratulations to them too,” Ronaldo said after he won the award ahead of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus.

Ronaldo’s teammates Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric were also winners, collecting the defender and midfielder of the season awards respectively.

Buffon was named goalkeeper of the season after playing a key role in Juventus' journey to the final.
