Burkina Faso international Robert Sankara has indicated his desire to continue his career in South Africa following his exit from Bloemfontein Celtic at the end of last season.
Sankara left Celtic in May after the club made it known that they will not be renewing his contract when it was expiring at the end of June.
“At the moment I have just been training here at home,” Sankara tells KickOff.com from the Ivory Coast.
The 32-year-old was born in Ivory Coast but plays his international football for neighbouring Burkina Faso.
“I feel returning to continue playing in South Africa will suit me better considering that I have played there for the past three years and have enjoyed every moment of it,” he says.
“From the very first day that I joined Free State Stars I have been happy to do a job there which is why I am still so keen to come back. As a free agent I will not be affected by issues related to the close of the transfer window because I have my clearance from Celtic.”
Last season Sankara only featured in 10 games for Celtic but remains a reliable centre-back, who has also played for Sudanese powerhouse Al Hilal.
