Eleven red cards and 73 yellows already ...

The domestic season is not even two weeks old but has noted eight players have already been sent off, with Eric Mathoho’s seventh minute red card last night headlining those dismissals.

Mathoho now joins Keamogetse Wolff as among the quickest sending offs in the history of the PSL.

Wolff was sent back to the dressing room after just six minutes in November 2007 while turning out for Bloemfontein Celtic in a game against Bidvest Wits at Milpark after a tackle on David Radebe.

Last night Mathoho clumsily challenged Bradley Grobler in what was classified as a professional foul as the SuperSport United forward was already facing goals, with Amakhosi going on to lose the match after playing with 10 men for the rest of the game. It was the 27-year-old defender’s first red card in professional football.

Joining the Chiefs centre-back in the group of those that have been shown red is Free State Stars duo Thamsanqa Teyise and Sifiso Mbhele, SuperSport United skipper Dean Furman, Sadate Ouro Akoriko of AmaZulu, Bidvest Wits' Slavko Damjanovic and the Golden Arrows pair of Danny Phiri and Siyabonga Dube.

The coaching trio of Gavin Hunt, Clinton Larsen and Mandla Ncikazi have also been banished to the stands.

A further 73 yellow cards have also been issued by the referees in the opening fortnight of the campaign.
