South African forward Mihlalhi Mayambela held his nerve to slot home a penalty in Degerfors’ shootout win over rivals Pitea on Wednesday night.
The two Swedish clubs were fighting for a place in the knockout stages of this year’s Svenska Cupen, the most prestigious domestic cup competition in the country.
Following a goalless draw in regulation time, penalties were needed to decide the ultimate victor, with Mayambela stepping up to convert his side’s third as they eventually prevailed 4-2 to secure their progression.
Elsewhere in the competition, Helsingborg’s South African striker Bradley Ralani – who has started 15 games so far this season – was not involved in his side’s 3-1 Cup victory over Oskarshamns. Former Orlando Pirates hardman Edwin Gyimah was included in the first XI, adding to his 18 starts in the league so far this campaign.
Helsingborg currently lie fifth in the Swedish first division after 20 matches played.
