SuperSport United defender Morgan Gould has admitted that the Bafana Bafana call-up has taken him by surprise but he is ready to wear the national team jersey with pride.
The 34-year-old Gould was a surprise inclusion in the Bafana squad to face Cape Verde in back-to-back 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in September.
The Soweto-born defender is set to fight for a position at the back with the likes of Erick Mathoho, Rivaldo Coetzee and Thulani Hlatshwayo after replacing Lorenzo Gordinho in the Bafana squad.
“It took me by surprise, especially when the other guys in the national team were doing well and in football you don’t change what is broken,” said Gould.
“I am feeling ecstatic. It feels like the first day I received my first call and I am looking forward to meeting the rest of the team and I hope to keep doing well,” he added.
Gould reached a milestone in his career when he played his 300th PSL game during the Tshwane derby between SuperSport and Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
“I was not aware of the milestone. It’s a great feeling. I am ready to still go on and I am looking forward to keep enjoying every game I play,” said the former Kaizer Chiefs defender.
“It's all due to the support staff and the people who believe in me. When I started football in the township I wanted to better my life.
“I respected the game and remain honest to the game. I am not the most talented player but I always dedicate my time and energy because I love the game,” he concluded.
