Stellenbosch FC beat Ubuntu Cape Town FC 2-1 at the Athlone Stadium on Monday in what was the last fixture of round one of the 2017/18 National First Division season.
All three goals came via headers as last season's third-placed side managed a valuable three-point haul on the road.
The visiting side opened the scoring at the midway point of the first stanza as Abednigo Mosiatlhaga stood up to head home a cross for Elias Monene.
Stellies had the ball in the back of the net again minutes later but Jarrod Moroole was adjudged to have used his hand.
Ten minutes out of the break and Ubuntu had their equaliser as Ranga Chivaviro, who had forced a sharp save from the goalkeeper late in the first period, got his head to Olwethu Nguye's cross.
Steve Barker's men snatched a late winner as substitute Broderick Burds found the head of Namibian striker Terdius Uiseb in stoppage time.
