KickOff.com can confirm that National First Division side Real Kings have signed former NFD Golden Boot winner Phumelele Bhengu.
Bhengu was last season on the books of Royal Eagles, also in KwaZulu-Natal, where he had less joy in front of goal after managing just a solitary strike in 15 appearances.
The 27-year-old, who was part of Serame Letsoaka's side at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009, was the second tier’s top scorer in 2014/15 with the now defunct Thanda Royal Zulu with 22 goals.
That form saw him earn a big move to SuperSport United the following season but it was not a happy stay in Pretoria as he played only four games without scoring and spent the majority of his time playing in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge team.
Bhengu then cut ties with Matsatsantsa and was signed by Royal Eagles at the beginning of last season, but has once again moved on, this time to Real Kings.
"Yes, we have signed him [Bhengu] but we are expected to reveal more signings within the club today [Friday] as there are some loose ends that need to be ironed out," Kings head coach Simo Dlaldla tells KickOff.com.
The Magic Boys, who will contest their second season in the NFD, will start the 2017/18 campaign away to newly-formed Richards Bay FC on Sunday at Umthathuze Sports Complex.
