New Bidvest Wits signing Steven Pienaar aims to emulate former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy, who won a treble with Orlando Pirates on his return from Europe.
McCarthy, now the coach of Cape Town City, left West Ham and helped Bucs to honours in a two-year stint at Mayfair before retiring in June 2013.
Ex-Everton star Pienaar feels he can achieve similar success with the Clever Boys.
"Obviously, he [McCarthy] came back and he did very well. He won all the cups that was on show," says Pienaar, who ended a 16-year spell abroad at Sunderland last season.
"For me that's the bar I want to reach but it is not going to be easy. Obviously, I don't want to compare myself with him, he was in a good team and won things with a good coach. But we got a good team here as well and I hope we can do the same."
The 35-year-old plans to get one over McCarthy when champions Wits open the 2017/18 Premiership season against City at Bidvest Stadium tonight (20h00).
"I'm looking forward to coming up against Benni. He is a big brother and I have to do one over him. We all want to win obviously, and we will still meet in the MTN8 as well. It is also good for me to go back to Cape Town."
The one-time Ajax Cape Town playmaker says the Students know what to expect from McCarthy's charges.
"We know what we are going to expect and the way Benni wants to play. It's going to be an interesting game but they are coming here and we have to make sure we get stuck in to them, and not make it easy for them and take it from there."
