Brandon Petersen says Ajax Cape Town are primed for strong Absa Premiership season

Posted: 17 August 2017 Time: 10:29

Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper Brandon Petersen believes the team’s pre-season has primed them for a strong showing in the Absa Premiership.

The Urban Warriors have been preparing for the 2017/18 PSL campaign since July 3 and will now put that preparation to use when they lock horns with Golden Arrows in the opening weekend of the league on Saturday.

And, speaking ahead of this weekend’s Cape Town Stadium encounter [20h15 kickoff], Petersen told Ajax’s official website: “I think this was one of the better pre-seasons we've enjoyed in the last few seasons or so, largely because we had the chance to go to Johannesburg.

“Usually we only play against Bidvest Wits and then against National First Division teams, but over the last month, we played against SuperSport United, Maritzburg United and so on.

“I am really looking forward to the first game, I have a good feeling and I think the guys have done a great job – they’ve put in the hard yards and you could see in the pre-season games that the hard work is starting to pay off.

“I think it is important for us not to lose our momentum now because previously we’ve started very slow – it has been a roller-coaster in the past, but I think – I am positive – that this season we will start with a bang.”
