Free State Stars have submitted a permanent residence application for Ghana midfielder Mumuni Abubakar as they seek to free up another foreign spot in their ranks.
Abubakar qualifies for PR having been in the country since June 2012 when he signed for Mamelodi Sundowns from New Edubiase United back in his homeland.
Following an awful first season with Sundowns during which he didn’t play he was then loaned out to Black Leopards where he then spent two years before moving to Vasco da Gama before returning to Lidoda Duvha last year.
The 24-year-old is now set to have his first taste of PSL football with Stars this season after his signing last month.
Should the club succeed in getting Abubakar’s PR papers it will then allow them to register him as a non-foreigner freeing up another spot that could then be taken up by Guinea international Bengali Keita.
Keita is still training with Stars after arriving from Moroccan club Hassania d’Agadir.
Pending Abubakar’s permanent residence Ea Lla Koto already have five foreigners in their books with the other four being the two new goalkeepers Badra Ali Sangare of Ivory Coast and Olivier Kwizera from Rwanda along with Mohammed Anas (Ghana) and Allen Nono from Gabon.
