Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane applauded the debuts of Oupa Manyisa and George Lebese, despite the pair not being able to help rescue the Brazilians’ MTN8 campaign.
Former Orlando Pirates captain Manyisa and Ex-Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebese made their first Sundowns appearances against Martizburg United at a packed Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday but were unable to turn the game around as the Tshwane giants succumbed to a 1-0 quarter-final loss.
Mosimane, though, believes the pair will prove great additions to the squad in the long term, despite the team's opening-day glitch against the Team of Choice.
“First, on Oupa, on what I saw in the game today is what I thought we will get out of him. If you don’t know Sundowns and you’re from outside you will never see anything out of the two players who just joined the team,” said Mosimane.
“They just fit like a hand in a glove, that’s why I signed these players, that’s why we opted for these players because you don’t sign just to sign, you have to sign in specific positions.
”Oupa came in as replacement for Teko [Modise]. We need that kind of creativity. He played very well. He took a shot outside the box as is his speciality because we always push opponents on the edge of the box.
"Him and [Hlompho] Kekana are deadly there. He has got a good shot and I think if the ball didn’t deflect a bit, we could be telling a different story.”
‘Jingles’ also admitted Lebese is viewed as a direct replacement for Keagan Dolly after the Bafana Bafana midfielder left the club for Montpellier in the French Ligue 1 last season.
“George plays on the left, the way we play. He fits in very well, he replaces Keagan,” said Mosimane.
