Saturday English Premier League Wrap

Posted: 12 August 2017 Time: 20:31

A couple of shock results were dished up during Saturday's English Premier League fixtures.

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

The Reds succumbed to a late Watford equaliser in a topsy turvy encounter at Vicarage Road.

The hosts went in front early through Stefano Okaka's header only for Sadio Mane to equalise with a tidy finish.

Parity did not last long as Watford scored again through Abdoulaye Doucoure to take a narrow advantage into the break.

The visitors went in front for the first time through Mohamed Salah after Roberto Firmino had put them back on level terms 10 minutes into the second stanza.

There was to be one final twist as Miguel Britos grabbed a contentious leveller in injury time.

Everton 1-0 Stoke

Wayne Rooney marked his return to the Toffees by scoring the game's only goal as they defeated the Potters at Goodison Park.

Rooney headed past Jack Butland in the Stoke goal on the stroke of half-time to record his 199th Premier League goal.

Chelsea 2-3 Burnley

Nine-man Chelsea came from three goals down to lose by a narrow margin to Burnley at Stamford Bridge.

The hosts had defender Gary Cahill sent off early into the game and Burnley took full advantage, plundering three first-half goals through a Sam Vokes brace and Stephen Ward strike.

Substitute Alvaro Morata pulled one back in the second stanza before Cesc Fabregas was given his marching orders. But even with only nine men the Blues continued to push and went within one through a late David Luiz goal.

Brighton 0-2 Manchester City

The Citizens took some time to break down their newly promoted hosts but eventually did so through a deft Sergio Aguero finish.

Lewis Dunk scored an own goal minutes after his side conceded the first as Pep Guardiola's side recorded a comfortable opening day win.

Other results:

Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield

Southampton 0-0 Swansea

West Brom 1-0 Bournemouth
