SuperSport United snuck through to the semi-finals of the MTN8 as they saw off a dominant Kaizer Chiefs via a 1-0 scoreline at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
The Pretoria side took the lead early into proceedings through Jeremy Brockie and maintained their advantage going into the break despite sustained pressure from Chiefs.
The half's solitary goal was an exquisitely worked counter with Reneilwe Letsholonyane picking out Bradley Grobler who swept the ball towards Brockie to take a touch and fire the ball past Itumeleng Khune.
For quite a lengthy spell Chiefs were resigned to taking shots of little consequence from some distance out as they looked for their equaliser.
Neat footwork from Siphiwe Tshabalala saw him create space for a shot which deflected off the body of Dean Furman and came back off the upright.
At the other end a sharp one-two between Grant Kekana and Letsholonyane allowed the fullback to dart into the box and force Khune to rush off his line and smother the effort.
Pule Ekstein picked up a pass inside the opponent's 18 yard area but saw his goalbound shot cleared via a header before Ronwen Williams' poor touch when receiving Morgan Gould's back pass almost allowed Gustavo Paez to nip in and take the ball from him.
The next to have a go was Bernard Parker but Williams flew across goal to tip away a shot that was headed for the top corner.
Chiefs were almost caught out early in the second period as Khune came out of his area to clear a ball over the top but made a hash of his clearance and allowed Grobler to loop a shot towards goal that Erick Mathoho cleared away.
Ramahlwe Mphahlele whipped a brilliant ball into the area and Parker diverted the ball towards goal via his head only to see it come off the post.
The game threatened to boil over midway through the second stanza, triggered by a robust challenge from Furman on Williard Katsande.
For a third time in the match Chiefs hit the woodwork with Ekstein firing his shot onto the crossbar in the 75th minute.
Chiefs did have the ball in the back of the net deep into injury time but Joseph Molangonae was offside in the build up.
