Cape Town City winger Ayanda Patosi says he is looking forward to playing alongside one of his role models in Teko Modise for the first time this season.
Both Patosi and Modise are in line to make their debuts for the Citizens, when they host Polokwane City in their MTN8 quarterfinal at the Cape Town Stadium this afternoon (15h00).
City coach Benni McCarthy could feature all three of his new signings – Patosi, Modise and Lyle Lakay – to ensure the home side start off their campaign all guns blazing.
McCarthy has admitted earlier in the week that he does not know much about Rise and Shine, and will be relying on information from his former Bafana Bafana teammate Shaun Bartlett, whose AmaTuks side played against the Polokwane outfit in a pre-season friendly recently.
Patosi, meanwhile, is looking forward to teaming up with his childhood role model, should they get the opportunity to be on the park together.
“Teko was a role model to me when I was with the academy at Pirates, and he was one of the players I looked up to. Now I get a chance to play with him in the same team,” Patosi said in the build-up to the clash.
"It’s great to have such players, also [Lehlohonolo] Majoro, ‘Robbie’ [Robyn Johannes] and all these guys I used to watch, and now I get a chance to play with them, it’s really nice.”
The 24-year-old former Lokeren attacker, who has never played professionally in South Africa, says he is excited to get his first feel of PSL action after spending more than six seasons in Europe.
“The players [here] can play and they have more touches on the ball. That side [in Belgium] you don’t always get a chance to have that quality on the ball,” said Patosi.
"The team comes first and we have to do what’s needed. I’m looking forward to playing in front of the people from my township Khayelitsha. The pre-season has been great and we have a great squad.”
