Bilankulu & Arrows itching to go

Lamontville Golden Arrows defender Musa Bilankulu insists the side are itching to get going in the new season, starting with tomorrow’s MTN8 opener against Bidvest Wits.

The Bidvest Stadium will play host to the first official game of the 2017/18 PSL campaign this weekend as defending champions Wits and Arrows lock horns, with kick-off at 20h00.

Former Wits defender Bilankulu knows all about glory in the Wafa Wafa, being the only player left from the Arrows squad who lifted the trophy in 2009 when they thrashed Ajax Cape Town 6-0, and he insists he is raring to go against the Clever Boys.

“The mood is good in the camp. I think the pre-season has been too long so everybody is ready to get onto the pitch,” Bilankulu tells

“Because that is where you can gauge yourselves because training sessions and friendly matches are different from cup competitions and league games.

“So I believe everyone is ready and I know so. The players know the target which is set by the team and this is the only cup where you can see yourselves getting through because if you win the first game you’ve got an advantage of a semi-final which is home and away.”

Even though Wits coach Gavin Hunt has made some shrewd signings during the transfer market, Bilankulu insists Arrows are focused solely on their own squad, and not concerning themselves with other teams’ business.

“Bidvest Wits have always been a big team and I believe with all the signings they have made, they'll find it difficult [to choose a starling XI] because it’s very tough to change the [winning] team of last season because of the signings they have made,” he adds.

“But us, we will go there as Golden Arrows without worrying too much about Wits and their signings because if we start worrying about the opponents we won't focus on our game. We respect them but we've got a plan for them and that's all I can say.”
