AmaZulu midfielder Michael Morton says he's looking forward to be being reunited with new Usuthu coach Cavin Johnson.

Former Platinum Stars coach Johnson was appointed yesterday, replacing Joey Antipas.

AmaZulu signed Morton on a season-long loan from SuperSport United, where he had previously worked with Johnson, who took him to Matsatsantsa from Maritzburg United.

“Obviously he took me to SuperSport when I was there so he's someone I'm familiar with,” Morton tells

“He will push the players; he's a good coach as well. We’ve got a very young squad and he's renowned for having a great record with youngsters – having brought a lot of players through the Ajax Cape Town system, so he knows what he's doing in terms of his development. I think he's the right man for the job.”

Morton says he agreed to leave SuperSport in search of mnore regular game-time this coming season.

“It just came to the point where I had to decide, was I OK to be a back-up player and just be a member of the squad, or should I go somewhere where I can really be involved in the team and push on to bigger things,'' he added.

“But I loved my time at SuperSport, it’s an absolutely fantastic club, I won lot of trophies so I don't regret a second I spent there. It was just time for me to move on.”

Morton's first game with AmaZulu will be on August 19 against Free State Stars at Umlazi's King Zwelithini Stadium.
