The Bidvest Wits man's face lights up with joy upon mere mention that his 11th year of playing in the PSL gets rolling on Friday night at Bidvest Stadium (20h00) in the MTN8 quarter-finals.

“Sometimes they say to me ‘now you are a little bit old’ but I say to them ‘age is just a number and my body is still feeling fresh to play’. I am also excited because this is a different season and every season I want something different and I try to improve also and so that is why I am very excited,” notes the man who first played under Gavin Hunt at SuperSport United during the 2007-08 season.

Due to turn 34 in November the Mozambican admits that while he is now slower he remains a willing student of the game and will learn from Steven Pienaar in the same way he will also listen to 17-year-old new signing Kobamelo Kodisang.

With the signings that the club has made he says he is also willing to embrace the competition.

“Of course, I can still do many things. I don’t have the same speed as before but I still have some experience. It is never late to learn which is why we can also learn from the youngsters and also learn from the people older than you.

“That [competition] is good because we always want to compete. It is also good for the team also because no one is relaxing, that is good. It is always good to have competition and the squad is getting bigger and bigger with more quality. It is good,” says Pelembe.
