The Togo international is training with SuperSport again after spending six months on loan at Pirates last term, and is said to have impressed new coach Eric Tinkler in Tshwane.

Matthews, who expects Wome to start in Matsatsantsa's MTN8 quarter-final with Kaizer Chiefs in Durban on Saturday, plans to touch base with Bucs chairman Irvin Khoza soon to see if the Soweto giants wish to bring the player back to Mayfair.

"Well we were in discussions with Pirates," Matthews tells

"They did send him back to us and unfortunately with everything that happened around the Carling Black label Cup I haven't be able to speak to the chairman. I still have to follow up with him. But for now he is training with us. He played very well in a friendly game. The coach is very happy with him and it looks like he will start against Chiefs on Saturday.

"For us he is our player. Of course if we get an offer, we have one year left on his contract, if we get good offer for him I will have to look at it. In one year's time, six months' time he is gonna be a free agent. I don't like to lose players on free contracts. But at the same time he is a good player, an honest player and he is the kind of player that until his last game that he plays for us we have faith he will give his best, and Eric likes him.

"So for me now I am relaxed about what happens. If Pirates come and make an offer for him we are open to it. If Pirates don't come I don't have a problem because he is a fantastic player. He scores goals, he makes goals and my coach likes him."

United recently signed goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa from Bidvest Wits and promoted Sipho Mbule and Riyaaz Ismail to their first team.
