South African midfielder Thulani Serero made his official debut for Dutch side Vitesse as they lost on penalties in the Johan Cruyff Shield against Feyenoord.
The Dutch Super Cup marks the start of the new season, with the winners of the Eredivisie (Feyenoord) taking on the winners of the league cup (Vitesse) from the previous campaign.
Serero, who left Ajax Amsterdam following the expiry of his contract at the end last season, joined Vitesse last month as he looks for regular game time at club level.
The 27-year-old made his debut for his new club as he started and lasted the full 90 minutes before the tie went to penalties, with the Rotterdam-based outfit edging the Vitas 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 stalemate in regular time.
