Baroka FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke addresses Goal of the Season snub

Posted: 2 August 2017 Time: 20:44

Baroka FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke has chastised the public who incorrectly assumed his Goal of the Season nominated strike was a shoo-in for the award and neglected to vote.

The towering goal-minder scored a last-gasp acrobatic equaliser against Orlando Pirates last season, garnering attention from around the globe.

Surprisingly, despite being a clear favourite in most people's minds going into the 2016/2017 PSL Awards ceremony, it was pipped by the goal scored by Kaizer Chiefs darling Siphiwe Tshabalala.

"Everyone knew very well that a voting criteria was going to be used in choosing the goal of the season," the 24-year-old tells

"The PSL made it very clear to everyone how the winning goal was going to be chosen. People just voted with their mouths and said 'Ja it's obvious Oscarine's goal is going to take this one' - but they forgot to do the voting.

They said, 'Aah, it's obvious' and forgot to vote. I mean why complain about the goal that was chosen as a winner if you know very well that you didn't bother voting for my goal?

"That's why I have no problem with the goal that ended up winning the award because it won where it mattered most... in the votes. It was chosen by the voters."

Masuluke says he is still very proud of his goal and believes it stands a chance of being nominated for the Puskas Award.

Meanwhile, the 6'4" shot-stopper says he welcomes the arrival of former Maritzburg United goalkeeper Virgil Vries to his club as that will provide him with much needed competition.

"Competition is good for the team, I am happy for it. His arrival will help me to always be on my toes," he says.
