New Bloemfontein Celtic striker Roggert Nyundu confident of 25-goal haul in Absa Premiership

New Bloemfontein Celtic striker Roggert Nyundu is relieved that he will finally get to play in the Absa Premiership and maintains his target of scoring 25 goals.

Nyundu was released by AmaZulu at the end of last term after six months with the club, whom he joined following his release from Black Leopards midway the 2016/17 season.

PSL rules say a player cannot be registered twice after playing in the first half of the season, though, meaning Nyundu had to wait for the January transfer window to open.

However, even after being registered, he still found game time hard to come by, with head coach Joey Antipas preferring veteran duo Siyabonga Nomvethe and Mabhudi Khenyeza as Nyundu eventually managed just two goals in 12 appearances.

The forward told this website after the first NFD game of last season that he will score 25 goals after opening his account in Leopards' 2-1 loss to AmaZulu, and he insists that target has not changed, despite him now heading into South Africa’s top flight.

“Definitely, I'll score those [25] goals because of players I'm surrounded by and I feel they are good players. With that said, I believe I'll reach my target,” Nyundu, who was part of Celtic side that won the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup on Sunday, tells KickOff.com.

“If you remember, I mentioned [in the] previous season that I think I'll reach it [25 goals]. And importantly, finally, I'll be playing in the PSL. I wish the effort I'm putting in right now I'll maintain when the actual season starts in two weeks’ time, so I'll work hard, more than anything.”

Nyundu says he's already gelling with his new team-mates and feels the team will be in a much better state this season compared to last term, where Celtic spent the majority of the campaign flirting with relegation.

“I remember my first day when I arrived at Celtic, I already clicked with many of the players,” he adds.

“The atmosphere at the club is good, we laugh everyday and that’s the mood you need in the team as the players create the team spirit. I believe results will start to flow when the season start this month.”

Since new coach Veselin Jelusic took over at Phunya Sele Sele, Celtic have yet to lose a friendly match.
