New Maritzburg United goalkeeper Richard Ofori says "standing tall at the back" is what he'll bring to the club ahead of this coming season.
The 23-year-old was recently signed by the Team of Choice on a three-year deal with a one-year option, and faces competition for game-time from fellow recruit Jethren Barr and Bongani Mpandle.
Ofori was drafted soon after the exit of Namibia international Virgil Vries, who has linked up with Baroka after his contract with Maritzburg was not renewed at the end of last term.
The former Wa All Stars keeper was part of the Ghana side that claimed bronze at the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Turkey and participated at the All Africa Games two years later.
Ofori was called up by Avram Grant for the Black Stars' AFCON 2017 campaign but he never featured in Gabon. However, he has played the last three matches for his country since the reappointment of Kwesi Appiah as the new coach.
"As the goalkeeper you need to help your team win more games. Even if your team can pick up points it's up to you because you need to stand tall so at least a team picks up a point," says Ofori.
"As the goalkeeper also, you need to always make sure that you keep clean sheets and that is my motive and it is always what I work for, to keep a clean sheet.
"Of course that doesn't come easy and you have to work very hard for it, and I'll work very hard for it to happen."
Club chairman Farook Kadodia said when he unveiled Fadlu Davids as the club's new coach in July that he wants his side to finish in the top five in the league and reach one cup final in 2017/18.
Ofori, who won the Ghanaian Premier League last season, is determined to meet Kadodia's mandate.
"It's a very big task because here for me it is new season and a new start," he adds
"So I can admit it is very big challenge, but as a player what I need to do is to be focused and make sure that all goes perfectly."
Ofori's compatriot and fellow keeper Razak Brimah has just been signed by Mamelodi Sundowns, with the clubs set to contest an MTN8 quarter-final at Lucas Moripe Stadium on August 13.
