Edward Manqele under pressure to impress Free State Stars coach Sammy Troughton

Posted: 1 August 2017 Time: 11:23

Free State Stars coach Sammy Troughton says striker Edward Manqele has a week or two to prove his worth, while he has confirmed fellow trialist Bongani Kama has moved on.

Troughton has been assessing former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns forward Manqele for almost three weeks.

"We are monitoring his progress, he has to convince us in a week or two," Troughton says of the 30-year-old to KickOff.com.

"He must actually prove he deserves the chance we have given to him. Manqele must impress in a week or two."

Manqele has been a free agent since April after managing to score only one goal for Chiefs in the 19 months he spent at Naturena.

Troughton adds that he is no longer running the rule over ex-Chippa United defender Kama.

"Oh Kama the defender, no we've let him go. He wasn't what we were looking for, so the search continues. If anything special comes along we will look into it. We are looking at adding a central defender and a striker."
