Denwin Farmer has expressed his delight after being called up to the national squad for only the second time in his young career.
The 20-year-old SuperSport United defender recently returned from a shoulder injury that kept him on the sidelines for nearly three months.
Farmer was previously selected for Bafana Bafana last year during Shakes Mashaba’s reign but never got the opportunity to make his debut, but now has the chance after being named in the latest senior national team squad for August's African Nations Championship qualifiers against Zambia.
“I’m ecstatic for the call-up and excited to be part of the national set-up,” Farmer told KickOff.com.
“I was itching to get back to the field as I’ve been training with the ball without contact for a while now. Hopefully I’ll get the nod, wear the jersey with pride and play with absolute passion.”
The Port Elizabeth-born player has also expressed his gratitude to head coach Stuart Baxter for his inclusion in the squad.
“I’ll show the coach that I’m ready to grab the opportunity with both hands,” Farmer said. “I’m ready to give 110 percent to thank the coach for believing in the younger players that never really got exposure to play for our country.”
The first leg clash of the third and final round will take place on Saturday, 12 August at a venue yet to be announced.
