Kaizer Chiefs claimed Soweto Derby honours as they beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 to defend their Carling Black Label Champion Cup crown at the FNB Stadium.
The Glamour Boys dominated proceedings and got the game's only goal courtesy of a well worked move that Bernard Parker finished off stylishly.
Chiefs went close inside the sixth minute as Lorenzo Gordinho got to George Maluleka's free-kick first and crashed a header against the underside of the crossbar.
It didn't take long until Amakhosi managed to find the back of the net as a wonderful run from Gustavo Paez took him to the byline and he cut the ball back for Parker to sweep home from close range.
Just past the quarter-hour mark Hendrick Ekstein unleashed a fierce shot from long range that Mpontshane tipped over the crossbar.
Ekstein looked to turn provider minutes later as he lifted the ball into the box and Parker looped a header onto the top of the net.
Chiefs remained the team in the ascendancy as the game wore on but were afforded fewer opportunities of consequence after the midway point of the half.
Then, with only a few minutes remaining in the first-half Parker cut inside on his left foot and tried his luck from outside the box but the effort was deflected over.
George Maluleka tried his luck with a placed effort from outside the area but it struck the upright and went away from goal.
After the break proceedings were subject to a lengthy stoppage as Rama Mphahlele went crashing into Paez and the duo took some patching up.
With his head heavily bandaged Paez tested Mpontshane in the 55th minute but his shot was straight down the gloveman's throat.
At the other end Mpho Makola uncorked a trademark low drive but the rarely troubled Itumeleng Khune got down well to save.
More chances began to present themselves to the Buccaneers and Bernard Morriso raced towards goal but with Khune rushing off his line the Ghanaian lobbed wide.
Morrison again tested Khune as the game approached the final 10 minutes as his blistering effort forced a jaw-dropping save from Khune before the follow-up was headed against the underside of the crossbar.
Pirates tried to force the issue in the closing stages but they were kept at bay by the bitter rivals as Chiefs claimed a third Carling Black Label Cup victory.
