Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso says this season the players must work hard to claim silverware, not just for themselves but as a way to ease the pressure on coach Steve Komphela.
“He [Komphela] has been positive [since we’ve started pre-season]. We're looking at the MTN8 obviously – the first trophy that’s up for grabs and I think that we will do well there. That’s what we're working towards now,” Cardoso tells KickOff.com.
“We’ve been going through pre-season and also as players we need to protect our coaches. Steve is a great coach and he doesn’t deserve that [not winning a trophy]. I’m sure also he wants to get a few trophies under his name and that’s what we will give him [this season].”
Cardoso also said that the game against Orlando Pirates tomorrow at FNB Stadium at 15:30pm in the Carling Black Label Cup will be a great test for them and they won’t take it as an easy game.
“Every derby against Orlando Pirates is a big game. We are not going to take it lightly, we going to step our authority like we did last season. It’s a pre-season game and it’s for the fans to see the players and also for the coach to see some combinations,” he says.
