Appeals Board rules in favour of Torrealba

The Safa Appeals Board has dismissed Mamelodi Sundowns’ appeal against the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber finding on Jose Torrealba and ruled that the signature on the Venezuelan striker’s contract extension was in fact forged.

PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu told the media late yesterday that the DRC had ruled in favour of Torrealba, confirming that he was a free agent.

“The earlier decision of the DRC has been confirmed; therefore the appeal by Sundowns has been dismissed. They have been ordered to forfeit the appeal fee of R10 000 that was paid to Safa,” he says.

“Sundowns were further ordered to pay all the legal costs that Mr. Torrealba incurred on a High Court scale and also ordered to carry the costs that Safa incurred in setting up the appeal process.”

Majavu did not want to speculate on the amount but said the Appeals Board was very specific, adding that the “High Court is the Highest Court in the land and this matter is unprecedented”.

“Torrealba will have to draw up a bill which will then be presented to Sundowns to settle. And once the parties agree on the fee, it will be paid.

“However, if there is a disagreement on the fee, it will go before a Tax Master of the High Court who will then determine whether the bill is fair.

“In the event that either party is aggrieved by the decision, there is still a further and final appeal, which is arbitration. That process must be exercised within 72 hours and it is only once the arbitrator has spoken that this matter will be finalised.”

The Legal reps of Sundowns are pathetic, what did they achieve by apealing? now Motsepe has to fork out approx a million in unecessary legal fees. Why didn't he fire Afzal from the very beginning?

Sundowns should just accept that one of their officials forged Torrealba's signature and deal with that individual instead of always appealing verdicts. We all know somebody did it so why is Motsepe falling prey to cowardice?

Even if Sundowns won the appeal it does not make sence because the player himself shows that he does not want to play for Sundowns anymore,so there is no use for them to keep an unhappy player in the team, just release him!!!!!!!

i share Kgethi's sentiments, Sundowns must now focus on who forged the player's signature instead of wasting money on legal costs.

It is very sickening to learn that for the second time Sundowns were found guilty of forgery. I think Sundowns took the stance to appeal merely to save face. Unfortunately for them it was not to be, so they must face the consequencies for their deeds. The question though is, who gave orders for the players' signature to be forged? Surely a man of Mr. Motsepe's stature would not do that, knowing exactly what would happen if things went wrong. Mr. Motsepe must find the culprit and take him to court. This is putting sundowns' name in the wrong map. I hope it is not Mr. Goldfingers or should I say Greyfingers.

Mr Motsepe lost to chiefs; Miners went on a strike; Leopards taught him a lesson and now Jose's case. What a Christmas!
