AmaZulu defender Ayabulela Konqobe admits he is thrilled with his return to the club, and even more so to again be playing in the Absa Premiership.

The former South Africa Under-20 international had a brief loan spell with Usuthu last year but saw his stay in Durban prematurely ended after his contract was terminated for breaching club rules.

He ultimately returned to Thanda Royal Zulu, who he helped win the National First Division title with 19 goals, before the club sold its PSL status to AmaZulu, prompting the formation of NFD outfit Richards Bay.

Konqobe and Usuthu have since patched up their differences, with the defender penning a three-year deal with the club earlier this month, and he admits he is happy to be back to where he feels he belongs.

“It means a lot being back in the PSL judging from the fact that I worked very hard to be here. It wasn’t an easy journey,” he said on AmaZulu’s official website.

“I experienced a lot, good and bad, but it helped me grow as a footballer and as a person.”

He continued: “Being back at AmaZulu is a great feeling, I left at a time where I was enjoying my football and everything was great.

“Off the field, there were things that came in between. Being professional is the only way everything has to go around. I’m glad I’m back home and I’m hoping it’s gonna be a very good season for us as Usuthu.”
