Bidvest Wits striker Eleazar Rodgers says winning his maiden Absa Premiership winners medal after more than a decade in the top flight will serve as motivation to achieve more in the upcoming season.
The Clever Boys have already gone about strengthening their squad as they look to defend their crown - adding Steven Pienaar and Daylon Claasen, amongst others, to their roster.
The 32-year-old Rodgers feels that having players of such a high calibre at the club will help him better his tally of 12 goals he netted in 2011/12 whilst playing for Santos.
“I’m generally a positive person but I’ve never been more optimistic and excited ahead of a PSL season than this season,” Rodgers told KickOff.com.
“Winning the league for the first time was magic. It’s made me believe that anything is possible as I had to be very patient. Therefore, I’ve set my sight on beating my personal record of 12 goals as I know it will come.
“With additional quality like Pienaar and Claasen I’m hoping I can achieve that milestone."
The former Platinum Stars striker is looking sharp during pre-season, especially against Cape Town City two weeks ago during their friendly when he netted a brilliant header goal from an acute angle.
“My aim is to work harder and to improve on last season season’s performance,” Rodgers further stated. “A lot of credit needs to go to our coach for his strategic acquisitions for the new season.
“It will be more difficult as we’ll have to compete in the Champions League as well. I’m confident that we can build on our success in the past as we have the right mix of quality young and experienced players."
