Taariq Fielies informs KickOff.com he’s happy to be in such “esteemed” company at new club Cape Town City after recently signing a two-year deal.

The 25-year old former Ajax Cape Town and Milano United defender sealed his Citizens move after impressing during his pre-season trial-spell which commenced a couple of weeks ago.

According to Fielies he’s surrounded by successful players and that bodes well for his future as he seeks to grow and develop as a person and a player.

“Firstly, I need to thank the Almighty for this opportunity,” Fielies told KickOff.com. “I need to thank the chairman, the coach and his staff for the trust and confidence they've show in my ability.

“I’m happy to be in such esteemed company of players like Teko Modise, [Lehlohonolo] Majoro and [Lebogang] Manyama.

“They achieved so much and yet they are hungry for more success – and that pushes me as well, you know. It makes me believe that I can also achieve this.

“And I’m also surrounded by experienced players like Robyn Johannes and Shu-Aib Walters to give me guidance and I have big respect for them. Look what they’ve achieved as a team last season. I want to be a part of this and I’m looking forward to my new venture."

Fielies believes his four-year stint with Milano in the National First Division also helped him to gain more steel and mettle, adding that he’s all about learning from new coach, legendary Bafana Bafana all-time goal scorer, Benni McCarthy.

“Our coach is another example of someone at the club that is driven by success. We all know what he achieved as a player. Hopefully his career as a coach will be just as illustrious as his playing career. I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow with this young club,” Fielies concluded.
