Kaizer Chiefs defender Erick Mathoho understands the responsibilities attached to being voted into Carling Black Label Cup team

Kaizer Chiefs defender Erick Mathoho says certain responsibilities come with being voted into the Carling Black Label Champion Cup team that will play Orlando Pirates this Saturday.

'Tower' was unable to turn out for the Glamour Boys in a recent pre-season match against Township Rollers of Botswana due to flu but he has since recovered.

That means Mathoho, consistenly in the top five for Chiefs since voting for the line-ups began, will be available for the Soweto Derby.

The 27-year-old believes a degree of pressure is attached to getting picked for the Carling Black Label Cup because it means the fans have put their faith in you.

“If you get voted in it’s up to you to make the fans happy,” Mathoho tells his club's official website.

Mathoho, approaching his sixth season with Chiefs, believes that the Soweto Derby is always a grand occasion regadless of whether it is a pre-season game or not.

“Playing against Orlando Pirates is always special,” he says.
