Mahashe banking on Macha

Baroka FC defender Mzwanele Mahashe is hoping new signing Lewis Macha will add value and help the club stay clear of the relegation zone in the coming season.
Macha left Kaizer Chiefs without scoring a goal in a competitive match and Baroka are hoping the Zambian forward will perform better than some of the strikers they have signed in recent times, such as Cleopus Dube, Helder Pelembe and Geoffrey Massa.
Following the departure of Victor Letsoalo to Bloemfontein Celtic, Macha will be the main man upfront for Bakgaga.
“Scoring was our problem last season. I was one of the top scorers in the team. Now we have Macha, who is an international player. He played for a big team, so I am sure he learnt a lot at Chiefs,” Mahashe tells KickOff.com.
“We have guys who create a lot of chances in our team, so I told him to be around the box so that he can finish those chances. He knows his duties, so I am pretty sure he will score goals for us in the coming season,” the former Bidvest Wits defender adds.
Baroka were delighted to avoid relegation via the play-offs, but do not want to deal with that type of drama in the coming season, and Mahashe is hoping they can stay away from the relegation zone and breathe a little easier than they did last term.
“The mood and energy in the team is different from last season,” he says. “You can gather as we are sitting together that the guys are determined. We don’t want to go back to last season because it was dramatic. We had inexperienced players and there was no consistency in the starting line-up.
“The guys are driven and the coach [Kgoloko Thobejane] was inspired by the PSL awards. He said we should imagine ourselves being part of those awards. He said we should do something in the coming season.
"Even if we don’t win anything, we should make sure we improve as a team. We want to start where we left off in the play-offs. I feel we will improve.”
