South Africa sealed their place in the next round of qualifiers for the 2018 African Nations Championship with a 1-0 victory over Botswana in the second leg of their tie at the Moruleng Stadium on Saturday.
Ryan Moon scored the only goal of the game to hand Stuart Baxter’s side a 3-0 aggregate win and set up a meeting with a powerful Zambian side in the next round.
The outing would have been useful for Baxter to look at his fringe players, with right-back Sipho Mbule earning a first cap.
The hard-working Moon opened the scoring on 13 minutes, his second goal in as many matches for the national team.
He was set-up by Mbule with a cross and applied a cool finish to further boost his growing reputation.
Moon had a number of other opportunities to score, but was let down by his finishing, and in the end South Africa had to settle for the single goal win.
They will now face Zambia in the next round of qualifiers, which are set for the weekends of August 11/12 and 18/19.
