Sammy Troughton highlights Paulus Masehe, Thamsanqa Teyise and Sinethemba Jantjies importance at Free State Stars

Free State Stars coach Sammy Troughton has made it clear that the success of the club is still dependant on senior players, while he is also reluctant to let go of winger Sinethemba Jantjie.

Stars earlier this month confirmed the appointment of Troughton, who joined after being shown the door at First Division side Stellenbosch FC following their failed promotional play-off campaign.

The Northern Irish tactician has since been assesing his squad, who have been in pre-season preparations for more than a month now, and has already indentified key players he will be depending on in the 2017/18 campaign.

"Of course, the captain and old man of the club, Paulus Masehe is one of those who have impressed so far," Troughton tells KickOff.com.

"I just hope he can play as many games as we wish next season. We will need his experience and his high work-rate. [Thamsanqa] Teyise has also been doing so well thus far."

As earlier reported by this website, Jantjie is on the radar of a number of Gauteng-based clubs, but Troughton is banking on the 28-year-old to stay put and help the club make amends for their dismal showing last season.

"It [interest from other clubs] is business. Yes, as a coach, I would not want to lose him but it's not something entirely dependent on me," adds the former AmaTuks mentor.

"Management will have a big role to play if it comes to that [selling]. Jantjie has been doing very good, and I hope he stays and contributes a few goals for us next season."
