Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso is determined to get a Bafana Bafana call-up and win trophies at club level

Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso says he aims to win trophies with Amakhosi this season and hopefully get a Bafana Bafana call-up again.

Cardoso has been in and out of the Chiefs starting line-up since joining the club in 2015, as coach Steve Komphela usually prefers the central defensive partnership of Erick Mathoho and Lorenzo Gordinho.

With the arrival of Zimbabwean defender Teenage Hadebe, competition for a place at the back will be even harder for Cardoso.

“For me, my personal goals are to play a lot more this season. I want to be a regular in the starting eleven, and I’m working towards that,” Cardoso tells KickOff.com.

“And also to get a call-up to the national team again, but besides all of that, I want to win trophies with Chiefs – that’s what I came here to do.

“I came from Free State Stars where we were fighting relegation every season and I came to Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs is a team that always wins trophies and I want to win trophies with them,” he adds.

Cardoso also says pre-season is going according to plan and the team is also testing new combinations ahead of the new campaign, which kicks off in August.

“Pre-season is going very well. We won the Maize Cup on the weekend [after beating Free State Stars 1-0]. I think it’s a confidence booster for us, giving players a run and the players that they [the technical team] haven’t seen, players who hadn’t played in a while.

“The fans got to see the [new] players [as well], the coach [Steve Komphela] is also working on different combinations and every player that comes to Chiefs adds value.”
