Allie expects tough title defence

Not since Orlando Pirates in 2012 has a club successfully defended the Absa Premiership title, so Bidvest Wits defender Nazeer Allie knows they will have their work cut out to retain their crown this season.
Wits made history by winning their first-ever league title in May, dethroning Mamelodi Sundowns who were chasing an eighth PSL title.
Now back in training to prepare for the new season, the Clever Boys are aware that they will have an even harder season with clubs such as Sundowns, SuperSport United and even Cape Town City eyeing the title.
Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will also be looking to end their miserable past few years by lifting the title, but they will have to work even harder now because clubs can easily match them pound for pound on the pitch.
“It will be difficult, but we just have to stay positive and do what we did the last season and work harder,” Allie tells KickOff.com.
“Obviously every season teams improve and I think it will be the same this season. Teams will get better players and improve themselves, so that’s why it will be harder,” he adds.
Allie missed the latter stages of the season with a toe injury, but that did not take away from the excitement of winning a first-ever league title in his career.
While he was away, young Reeve Frosler did a splendid job at right-back.
“He [Frosler] is an unbelievable talent. He showed it in the last 10 games he played in the season, so he has a bright future ahead of him. I think he can go far in his football career,” Allie says.
