Teboho Mokoena says Bafana Bafana cannot rest on laurels in CHAN second-leg vs Bostwana

Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena insists the team cannot rest of their first-leg advantage when they resume hostilities with Botswana in the African Nations Championships qualifiers.

South Africa head into Saturday’s return fixture against their near neighbours holding a comfortable 2-0 lead from the opening clash at Francistown Stadium last weekend.

And while Bafana are favourites to see out the result on home soil this weekend, SuperSport United midfielder Mokoena - who has been withdrawn from the squad for the return fixture - has called on the national team to remain completely focused when they again lock horns with Botswana.

“Yes, the lead is an advantage but doesn’t mean much. If we were able to score two goals away, then it certainly means they can do the same,” he said via an official SAFA statement.

“We have to treat this as a new ball game where the score is 0-0. We have to work hard and ensure that we win this game so as to proceed to the next round.

“We should have the same mentality as we had in the first leg so we can win again. We need to defend well, keep a clean and that will help us proceed further in the qualifiers.”

Looking back over their first-leg win, Mokoena - who has since been replaced in the Bafana squad by club-mate Michael Morton - said: “The match went according to plan, just the way we wanted it. We worked very hard to get the positive result, and that is a positive when they come to us in South Africa for the second leg.

"It was a tough match but we were able to manage it very well by following the coach’s instructions and that’s how we were victorious."
