Orlando Pirates midfielder Issa Sarr has promised a better season for the Buccaneers faithful and insists it will start with this month’s Carling Black Label Champions Cup.

The Soweto giants endured an 80th anniversary season to forget, ending the 2016/17 campaign trophyless and 11th on the Absa Premiership standings, yet Sarr is determined to put their past disappointments behind them.

“We have to correct what went wrong [last season] and move forward and fix everything, and forget about the past and focus on the future,” he tells

Sarr knows the club has to do better this campaign and is determined to start the season on a high by defending their Carling Cup crown.

“We have to give better results and try to get something this season because Pirates is a big team,” he says.

“We always start with Black Label Cup, [and] we will prepare for it. At Pirates we don’t have friendlies. There are no small games, so we will take the game seriously. We want to win it and we will try to win the game like last year.”

The season’s curtain-raiser, set for Saturday, 29 July, has officially been sold out.
