Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has showered praise on the club’s new signings following a solid performance during the Maize Cup played at James Motlatsi Stadium in Orkney on Saturday.

Amakhosi shot down Township Rollers 2-0 in the semi-finals before beating Free State Stars 1-0 in the final to lift the pre-season trophy.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys used the competition to parade some of their new signings, including Bhongolwethu Jayiya, Teenage Radebe and Philani Zulu, as well as other youngsters such as Kgotso Malope.

“Philani did well at left-back. I thought the youngster, Malope, did well,” said Komphela.

“It was nice to see [Gustavo] Paez scoring and looking more positive. The centre-back [Teenage] Radebe did well for the first time playing with this team and to perform like that I will give him a good 8 out of 10,” he added.

Chiefs will travel to Botswana this coming weekend for a friendly match with Rollers before taking on Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup at FNB Stadium on July 29, where Amakhosi fans have been given some insight into the team selection by Komphela.
