Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt feels old with Benni McCarthy now a coaching counterpart

Posted: 16 July 2017 Time: 10:49

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has joked that having Cape Town City’s new coach Benni McCarthy as his counterpart in the Absa Premiership definitely makes him “feel old.”

Hunt started his managerial career with Seven Stars in 1995 at which time McCarthy also appeared on the scene as a youngster from the Cape Flats.

McCarthy, coming from amateur clubs like Young Pirates and Crusaders in the Mother City, went on to bag 38 goals from 56 matches during his time with Stars under the guidance of Hunt.

“When you see a guy who started playing his football when I was coaching and then obviously finish playing [and start coaching] and I’m still coaching… it makes you feel old,” Hunt told reporters.

“But it’s good as he's starting at the right end of the business you know and I wish him well and I know he’ll do well.”
