KickOff.com has been alerted that newly formed Richards Bay FC have signed centre-back Sandile Mthethwa on loan from Orlando Pirates.

Mthethwa, who joined Pirates in early 2016 from the KZN Academy along with midfielder Brian Hlongwa, is currently with the Bafana Bafana squad that is set to play Botswana in a CHAN qualifier today at Francistown Stadium (15h30 kick-off).

"Richards Bay FC have signed Sandile Mthethwa from Orlando Pirates on loan," a well-placed source tells KickOff.com.

"This is a former Flamengo FC player in Ngwelezana in the north of KZN, so he'll be familiar being in Richards Bay. He was recently in the COSAFA squad and now he's in the CHAN squad.

"Richards Bay FC are hard at work and today they will play two friendly matches against fellow NFD side Real Kings."

Mthethwa last week earned praise from Bafana coach Stuart Baxter for his efforts in the 1-0 win over Namibia in the Plate final of the COSAFA Castle Cup.

The Durban-born defender has enjoyed a superb 2017, having also helped Amajita finish fourth at the U-20 AFCON, while he played in all three group matches at the the FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea in May.

Richards Bay FC came into being after AmaZulu bought the topflight status of National First Division champions Thanda Royal Zulu earlier this month. The club will campaign in the second tier in 2017/18.
