The Ivorian has just concluded his first season with the Brazilians after joining from Asec Mimosas last year.

The 26-year-old finished the season with five goals in 26 appearances during the 2016/17 campaign after initially struggling to find his feet at the club.

Once he got going, Zakri showed great confidence in possession but was at times guilty of holding on to far too long. He got himself on the scoresheet on a few occasions in the second half of the season, which will give him a great deal of confidence going into the new campaign.

“It was difficult at the beginning, but the coach and the players helped me a lot,” says Zakri.

“It was a big change, because this is a new team and I am in a new country, but now I feel I have settled in the team.”

Zakri adds that his biggest goal is to help the Tshwane side retain their CAF Champions League crown. Sundowns are scheduled to play Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca in the quarterfinals after finishing second in Group C behind Tunisian giants Esperance.

The reigning champions will need attacking players such as Zakri to open up the tight Wydad defence which did not concede a single goal at home during the group campaign.

“We are the number one team in Africa and I want us to win the trophy again," he concluded.
