Namibian goalkeeper Virgil Vries has confirmed he is definitely continuing with his career in the PSL following what he terms ‘a surprise’ non-renewal of his contract with Maritzburg United.
Vries’s deal at Maritzburg ran up at the end of last month with the club choosing not to exercise the option of another year on his contract.
“To be honest I was a bit surprised,” Vries tells KickOff.com at the back of having been the regular keeper at the club last season. Vries featured in 21 games.
“However, this is football and you to respect the wishes of the club. I am moving on and will definitely be playing in the PSL in the new season. What happened cannot be reversed anymore. When you have played 21 games and then the club decided not to renew you will have questions which in this instance you cannot really be stressing about getting answers to. I just have to accept the club's decision. What is on my mind is the next move and all I know is that I will surely know where I am going to next by next week,” explains Vries.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a possible move to either Baroka or Free State Stars.
“My manager is handling those issues and once any of the offers on the table becomes concrete then I will sign and then move on with my career. What I can confirm is that I will still be in the PSL,” he adds.
