Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sibusiso Kumalo called up to replace Lehlogonolo Masalesa for Bafana Bafana CHAN qualifiers

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sibusiso Kumalo has been called up for Bafana Bafana's African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers as a replacement for Lehlogonolo Masalesa.

Masalesa captained the South African national team at the recently concluded COSAFA Castle Cup, leading the side to a fifth place finish in the North West Province.

Stuart Baxter was lead to believe the 25-year-old was eligible for the CHAN qualifiers against Botswana as he had left Greek side AE Larissa.

However, as per CAF rules an unregistered pplayer may not take part.

Meanwhile, forgotten Masandawana midfielder Kumalo will take his place in the 23-man squad.

The former Moroka Swallows midfielder has seen very little game time since joining Sundowns and has been loaned out on two ocassions whilst aslo spending time with the club's MDC side.

Kumalo's inclusion, however, is in line with Baxter's selection criteria for this particular set of matches to be contested home and away against the Zebras.

South Africa and their neighbours will meet in the first leg on Saturday, 15 July 2017 at Francistown Stadium with a 15h30 kick-off.

The second leg will be staged at the Moruleng Stadium in Rustenburg the following weekend (Saturday, 22 July). Kick-off is at 15h00.

Mario Booysen will now captain the side.
