Golden Arrows star Nduduzo Sibiya pays homage to the coaches who have aided his rise

Golden Arrows star Nduduzo Sibiya feels indebted to the club's coaching staff for his meteoric rise.

Sibiya scooped the Nedbank Cup Young Player of the Tournament accolade at the 2016/17 PSL Awards and says he owes so much to Arrows coach Clinton Larsen and assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi.

A key figure in Abafana Bes'thende's succesful capture of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge title in the 2015/16 season, he found himself playing a big role in the first team this past season.

The Lamontville-born midfielder shone in the Nedbank Cup, scoring a memorable goal to dump Mamelodi Sundowns out of the cup, and made 25 league appearances.

"I have to thank my coach Clinton Larsen as he played me in various positions and when you play in various positions you tend to not to perform," Sibiya tells KickOff.com.

"But he was giving me instructions from position to position on what to do at that time and that will make me grow as the player.

"So the opportunity he gave me I have to thank him for that. Also, [I have to thank] coach Mandla Ncikazi because occasional he kept on telling me I shouldn't take my football career lightly because this is my daily bread."

Last season's form saw Sibiya called up for Bafana Bafana's Cosafa Cup squad that finished fifth as he was named Man of the Match against Namibia in Plate final at Moruleng Stadium on Friday.

Now that he has made his breakthrough, Sibiya says he is gunning for major awards this coming season as he aims to take his game to another level.

"I just need to pull up my socks and compete for other major awards. I'll not mind whatever award it is as long as my name is listed as part of the nominees," he added.

"That means I'll have to double my efforts and do what I did this past season."
