Fabian McCarthy says Amakhosi must aim to win everything this season

Posted: 11 July 2017 Time: 19:27

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy says this coming season Amakhosi must aim to win everything that’s on offer – including pre-season tournaments like the Maize Cup and the Carling Black Label Champions Cup.

“This season [2017/18], starting with the Maize Cup, it’s time for the team. I’m not going to say to coach Steve [Komphela], to start changing what happened in the past two seasons,” McCarthy tells

“Let’s do it the Chiefs way. Let’s start winning even trophies like these [Maize Cup]. It’s a booster and a right step into the new season. After this [Maize Cup], it’s the Carling Cup [Carling Black Label Champions Cup] for Chiefs and they must also carry on [on winning]. And after that it’s the top 8 [MTN8].

“I mean two seasons without any cup, it’s unlike Kaizer Chiefs, but coach Steve is there and he is staying, and he is busy with a plan and it’s falling into place. Now it’s about celebrating.

“No more time to say, ‘we are busy finding the Chiefs way’. The team must just work together, fight and win everything that’s there in Mzansi [South Africa].”

Chiefs will start their latest ‘Operation Vat Alles’ when they face Township Rollers of Botswana in the Maize Cup semifinals on Saturday, July 15, at James Motlatsi Stadium at 12h00.
