Mpho Makola says Orlando Pirates will challenge for honours on all fronts

Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola believes the club has a squad strong enough to compete for everything on offer next season.
Expectations will be high from the Bucs supporters in the coming season after they finished the last campaign with nothing but tears caused by the team’s terrible performances on the pitch. Despite having three coaches on the bench at different times in the season – Muhsin Ertugral, Augusto Palacios and Kjell Jonevret – Pirates players never looked like they were interested in playing for the badge.
The Soweto giants have added midfielder Thami Sangweni to the squad and they are apparently not done in the market. Wits midfielders Phumlani Ntshangase and Ben Motshwari have been linked a with move to the Soweto giants.
“We’ve got a solid squad. If you could see the squad in training, you would know what I am talking about. But when it comes to match day, I don’t know what happens. But I have faith in the team and I think we can challenge for everything in the PSL,” Makola tells KickOff.com.
“It was a bad season for us, but it was a learning curve at the same time. We made a lot of mistakes, so we need to rectify all those mistakes when we go into the new season. It’s going to be important for us to be consistent throughout the whole season.
“We take full blame for what happened last season. The coaches and technical team are not the ones who go onto the field of play. So we take full responsibility and all we can do now is fix things for next season,” he adds.
Pirates will not be involved in the MTN8, so they’ll have three major titles to compete for. But the big question is; which Pirates team will we see next season? One with renewed vigour or the same team which finished the campaign outside the top eight and no silverware to brag about? Only time will tell.
