AmaZulu have begun preparations for the 2017/18 Absa Premiership season in earnest with the signing of five new players.
Usuthu, who this week were confirmed as top-flight participants for the upcoming season following the takeover of Thanda Royal Zulu, have bolstered their roster with the acquisitions of Sadat Ouro-Akoriko, Sduduzo Dlamini, Jabulani Ncobeni, Siyabonga Mbatha and Siyethemba Mnguni.
Ouro-Akoriko’s arrival was initially reported by KickOff.com last month, with the Togolese international, formerly of AmaZulu before spending two seasons in Saudi Arabia, having joined as a free agent, signing a three-year deal with the club.
He is joined by Thanda Royal Zulu trio Dlamini, Ncobeni (26) and goalkeeper-captain Mbatha as well as Mbombela United’s Mnguni, all of whom have penned three-year deals.
AmaZulu coach Joey Antipas says he is well-pleased with his new acquisitions, especially his former Amabhubesi signings.
“What I’ve noticed about Sdu and JB [Ncobeni] is that they enjoy their training, and they show professionalism like all the players do,” he said. “We hope they can give as that extra cutting edge in midfield.
“We are obviously glad to finally have Mnguni from Mbombela. Siyabonga did very well with Thanda last season, he was one of the reasons they won the league.
“In the first half of the season they didn’t concede much which you can credit to him and his defence.”
