Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Hlompho Kekana admits it is a close battle between the three PSL Footballer of the Season nominees for the 2016/17 season.

Kekana has been nomintaed alongside Bidvest Wits defender Thulani Hlatshwayo and Cape Town City forward Lebogang Manyama for the top honour at this year's awards ceremony, which will he hosted in Sandton, Johannesburg next Monday, July 10.

The Brazilians skipper believes the nominees have all made a strong case for the award, admitting that the decision on the outright winner is no easy feat.

"Being listed amongst the nominees was one of those moments where one has to be proud of the recognition from the PSL," admitted Kekana.

"Obviously it's going to be a very tough decision for people to choose one of us to win, because I really believe we each represented our [respective] teams very, very well.

"I think we're at a stage where we want to reap the rewards of our good seasons that we've had, and there's confidence with each one of us that we are going to win.

"For whoever wins it will be a great achievement because we are the respective leaders [captains] of our teams."

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old, who has been an ever present for Sundowns throughout their participation across seven different competitions over the past 12 months, has explained how he has managed to stay on top of his game and ultimately be nominated for the best player award for a second year running.

"It goes back to my responsibility as a player, that I'm not only representing myself but a lot of people in the villages back in Pretoria, where people are believing in me," he said.

"I'm one person who can't really let people who believe in me down. I will always try to be on top of my game, even when the chips are down and it's difficult. I try by all means to make sure that I represent my people well."
